Q. TELL US YOUR JOB TITLE AND COMPANY?
A. Business development for a leading global law firm.
Q. TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR JOB AND HOW YOU GOT THERE? WHO INSPIRED YOU AND WHAT’S THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU HAVE FACED?
A. I am an engineer by background ironically. Engineering is a very versatile qualification, you learn to be logical, analytical, commercial, reasonable and pick up exceptional project management skills. People skills and the ability to balance flexibility with good prioritization, are all essential. I am also an entrepreneur with my own businesses. All these transferable skills and experiences have helped me with my current role.
The people I work with daily inspire me to do better. However my biggest inspiration is probably a woman who has had a profound impact on my life, Edna O’Brien. She taught me that in life you can achieve whatever you put your mind to, so long as you believe in it. She went on to change the plight of women in Ireland and continues to be a significant author of our time. It’s a shame our generation has lost touch with Edna’s work. She has been a blessing, a great mentor and I’m proud to say a great friend for many years.
Q. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE AND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOUR WORK AND CASUAL WARDROBE?
A. Simple elegance, I hope. No matter what I am wearing on the outside though, I start with beautiful lingerie. It’s a must. Work tends to be more formal due to the environment. I have a mix of influences so will wear from Zara, to Duro Olowu to Chanel and more. My casual wardrobe is a more basic uniform of cashmere, jeans and skirts, however I also have a lot of fun with fashion with tonnes of vibrant colours. Accessories and jewellery are next weakness, next to lingerie of course.
Q. TELL US ABOUT A SPECIAL ITEM IN YOUR WARDROBE.
A. My favourite go to is Royal Asscher Diamond’s ‘Star of Africa’ collection. Diamonds are always a girl’s best friend and they also happen to be my birth stone :). The Star of Africa collection is based around floating diamonds, think a snow globe of diamonds made into stunning jewellery. They complete everything I wear with effortless beauty and elegance. And better still, each item helps social causes in Africa.
Q. WHAT HAVE YOU PURCHASED FROM NICHOLE DE CARLE LONDON? WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT IT AND THE BRAND?
A. I love Nichole de Carle London so much but I also gift it to my friends. I now own a few pieces that always make me feel super sexy. The brand is iconic in my eyes, Nichole has changed the language of lingerie. I am now starting to see the high street be influenced by the brand to me that’s the power of innovation. However as we all know, there can only be one original, which is why I stay loyal to NdCL. The quality, the fabrics, the fit and the comfort are like no other.
Q. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE THAT YOU HAVE VISITED AND WHY?
A. This was a hard question to answer because my favourite place in the world would be the middle of the ocean on the back of a boat. Hopefully, on a sunny day taking in the vastness of this planet. When you come by say a whale, you really start to get perspective of the magnitude and beauty of this planet.
Q. WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN AND WHO WAS IT FROM?
A. “Your time is limited. So don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by Dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” Steve Jobs.
Q. HOW DO YOU TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND WHAT ARE YOUR PERSONAL TIPS FOR HEALTH AND BEAUTY?
A. I invest in myself in so many ways not just the physical but also the mental. Body, mind and soul. For fitness I prefer a mix of Pilates and cardio, as well as other resistance, so long as I make it fun. For mind and body, I am a yoga practitioner. I also invest heavily in my mental wellbeing, through reading, causes and so much more. As Homo sapiens we forget how complex we are, so I do my best to understand myself as well as others. On that note I recommend two books as my tip. Do yourself a favour and grab a copy of ‘Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind’ by Yuval Noah Harari and ‘Emotional Intelligence 2.0’ by Travis Bradbury & Jean Greaves.
Q. FINISH THE SENTENCE:
A. “I feel most confident when I am……wearing gorgeous lingerie.”
Q. SHARE A SECRET WITH US.
A. Not many people know this but away from my corporate life, I love to let my imagination run wild and let my naughty alter ego out.
