Q. TELL US YOUR JOB TITLE AND COMPANY?
A. Founder of DASH Team London.
Q. TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR JOB AND HOW YOU GOT THERE? WHO INSPIRED YOU AND WHAT’S THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU HAVE FACED?
A. I’m an athlete first and a brand junkie second. After spending 10 years in advertising I decided helping to sell sugary drinks and fried chicken wasn’t really for me. I started to become intrigued by how fitness brands were emerging as cultural lifestyle decisions. Sports gear started becoming fashionable and the term ‘active wear’ now implies style. People started to see workouts as another form of self-expression.
As a sprint athlete, I know how much physical and emotional benefit I get from my training program. This has been carefully designed by a legend of a coach Ron Roddan, who has been my biggest inspiration. He’s coached Olympians to club runners with the same simple ingredients of passion, logic and love. These same ingredients have inspired me to create DASH and bring sprinting to the masses. It’s not just about exercise and getting people fit, although of course this is a huge benefit, but it’s more about getting them to believe they can do something they never imagined. With a little bit of focus and fearlessness we’re all able to push ourselves that little bit further – it’s not just for the elite, we can all benefit.
The biggest challenge of any start up is getting the ball rolling. Particularly, encouraging people to shake up their routine and exercise in the freezing, rainy and gloomy conditions that London has sometimes. A challenge but not impossible. Your energy can create positivity in others no matter what the condition.
Q. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE AND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOUR WORK AND CASUAL WARDROBE?
A. I spend a lot of time in activewear and don’t get me wrong, I love to dress up but there’s nothing better than effortlessly chic – simple, classic and natural.
Q. TELL US ABOUT A SPECIAL ITEM IN YOUR WARDROBE.
A. My ultimate wardrobe accessory is my giant yellow handbag from Zadig & Voltaire. Simple, classic & bright! Pops of colour always brighten up any outfit.
Q. WHAT HAVE YOU PURCHASED FROM NICHOLE DE CARLE LONDON? WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT IT AND THE BRAND?
A. I have absolutely fallen in love with Nichole de Carle London and I just love the Babydoll nightwear and the Underwired swimsuit – mainly because the fit and cut is so good, and there’s always something cheeky about showing off your back. It’s a real timeless classic.
Q. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE THAT YOU HAVE VISITED AND WHY?
A. This is a tough one but Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam is awesome, so Cosmopolitan and chic yet still filled with Eastern philosophy and Eastern charm.
Q. WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN AND WHO WAS IT FROM?
A. “Surround yourself by people who can only lift you higher.” My childhood, closest and very best friend told me this.
Q. HOW DO YOU TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND WHAT ARE YOUR PERSONAL TIPS FOR HEALTH AND BEAUTY?
A. When you’re rushing and pressed for time, as I most often am, tie your hair in a bun, blast with the hair dryer and let the curls fall. It takes two minutes and feels as though you’ve had a professional blowdry.
Q. FINISH THE SENTENCE:
A. “I feel most confident when I… have set myself up with an amazing breakfast.” Sounds crazy and clichéd but if you eat clean you start as you mean to go on.
Q. SHARE A SECRET WITH US.
A. Love, patience and perseverance are the three ingredients for success.
