Q. TELL US YOUR JOB TITLE AND COMPANY?
A. Founder & Director of Medico Beauty.
Q. TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR JOB AND HOW YOU GOT THERE? WHO INSPIRED YOU AND WHAT’S THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU HAVE FACED?
A. I always felt that I had an intuition for business and was self-employed from the very onset of leaving university in 2003. Medico Beauty was born out of a desire to transform the traditional beauty experience and skincare regime into a supercharged and optimized programme, that ultimately had the effect of making everyone feel happier in their own skin. In early 2000 there were a number of game changing innovations in cosmetic chemistry that brought about a new era in making these routines available for everyone. Skincare went from being sold as an everyday item to entering the luxury market. At times it seems as though there is as much money being invested in the next greatest beauty hit as in the development of the iPhone.
I was already involved in the Distribution and sale of cosmeceuticals to professionals, meaning I was learning first hand from the International pioneers who were setting the new standard within cosmetic chemistry. They ultimately lead to the birth of the first Medi Spa in the UK.
Today Medico Beauty is a distributor of skin treatments made in America including the very popular CosMedix. I manage a team who deliver the training and products found in award winning clinics, advanced beauty salons and spas. I also provide the expertise in creating ground breaking skin clinics, deciding on the levels of services that will be carried out, from results driven facal treatments to full body services that help address a person’s whole appearance and health.
I’ve spent the last ten years becoming an expert in knowing how to get results in even the most challenging of cases, eventually training as a Master Aesthetician. I love being in a position to help create the protocols and pathways that achieve the most fantastic results, making the connection between effective science and practical application, and then training other professionals to do the same.
My parents are partners in a medical practice that introduced pioneering non-surgical treatments many years before they became mainstream. Whilst I was at college, most of my summers were spent helping out in their clinic in Kensington, Plastic Surgery Associates. I enjoyed the interaction with patients, seeing their transformation and being supportive of the process involved addressing their problems from the inside, out. Because of a willingness to think outside of the box, both my parents were greatly inspirational and I still admire today how they approach the business of beauty with integrity.
I knew that through choosing to work in this service industry I was in a position to help people and ultimately that is what has transpired with the growth of my own business. Every professional that attends training gets an honest perspective of the process that is involved and is told that there is no such thing as a quick fix but with a small amount of effort, the benefits can be multiplied many times over. Seeing truly is believing.
Q. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE AND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOUR WORK AND CASUAL WARDROBE?
A. Whether I am dressing for work or outside, my personal style could be described as classic with a twist. I really love Prada and Sandro’s girlie pieces such as some colourful trousers or an eye-catching necklace. The two items of clothing that brighten up any day are my Charlotte Olympia shoes and a sparkly jumper – I actually have quite a collection! There are often events happening in the evening and a City girl has to make smart choices during the day, as time is often very short. I do know as soon as I slip on Nichole de Carle London underwear, whether my evening is likely to be naughty or nice!
Q. TELL US ABOUT A SPECIAL ITEM IN YOUR WARDROBE.
A. I believe that a special item of clothing is the one piece that never lets you down, it just helps the flow of life and take you that bit higher up on the scale of happiness. My all time favourite piece is a long figure hugging Moschino skirt in the most amazing purple. My farther is Middle Eastern and I just know it is in my DNA that feel most comfortable when I am having one of my ‘Habibi’, big hair, peachy bum, fierce girl days.
Q. WHAT HAVE YOU PURCHASED FROM NICHOLE DE CARLE LONDON? WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT IT AND THE BRAND?
A. I own some lovely Nichole de Carle London pieces that are colourful, comfortable and fit my body shape well. I can wear the bras everyday but some underwear pieces are for more special occasions. I also take the swimwear on holiday and am always complimented on it. I like that the designs are classic but with a very modern, geometric effect. Most importantly the materials feel divine.
Q. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE THAT YOU HAVE VISITED AND WHY?
A. Istanbul – the best place to fly to from London in under four hours. It has everything I adore about travel; it’s exotic, historic and very welcoming. I really enjoyed having the opportunity to explore this epic city and found it very easy to make friends! Nothing beats seeing a new place from a local’s perspective and the hidden gems that exist there are truly magical.
Q. WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN AND WHO WAS IT FROM?
A. I love asking questions and often find that people are willing to give a very honest response. One of which has been to know the importance of being yourself. I learned this from speaking to a mentor that has been married more than once, actually three times. I asked her to explain how she ended up finding her true mate and she explained that it was only when she decided to honour her own choices, the right one came along.
Q. HOW DO YOU TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND WHAT ARE YOUR PERSONAL TIPS FOR HEALTH AND BEAUTY?
A. I like taking a common sense approach to help give myself the best chance to feel good. Stress plays a huge role is wrecking havoc with that feeling of well-being, so I live as best I can to stay in balance. I don’t believe in feeling deprived and instead enjoy the enormous amount of nourishment that exists in even the most simple of things. The everyday doesn’t have to be dull. If I could suggest one thing to help transform anyone’s life it would be meditation, whether guided or unguided. Taking twenty minutes to sit still has a very powerful effect on how you function and ultimately does reduce stress. All the people I admire the most meditate and that says something.
Q. FINISH THE SENTENCE:
A. “I feel most confident when I am… seeing a great idea come to life.” There is nothing more satisfying that guiding a project from conception to realization. The sense of achievement is enormous and makes all the challenges and pain worthwhile.
